Day 1 : Vientiane – Luang Namtha – Muang Sing

Morning flight from Vientiane to Luang Namtha. Upon arrival, drive through tropical forests and hill-tribe villages to Muang Sing. Stop en route to visit Had Yao Village Handicrafts Cooperative and Ban Lak Kham Mai (Akha). Arrive at Muang Sing in the late afternoon. Check in the hotel. Dinner and overnight in Muang Sing. Day 2 : Muang Sing – Walking

Breakfast. Visit Muang Sing’s morning market and hike to Nam Ded Mai (Akha), Pou Don Than (Yao) and Fou Pou’s farm. In the afternoon, visit the Muang Sing Exhibition, traditional Lao houses, minority handicraft markets, and a Buddhist temple featuring Thai Lue architecture. Drive to Ban Yang Luang (Akha) and Ban Thin Thad (Tai Lue). Spend the afternoon relaxing and enyoying the moutain scenery and rice paddies. Dinner and overnight in Muang Sing. (B.L.D)

 

Day 3 : Muang Sing – Luang Namtha

Breakfast. Drive to Luang Namtha. The road winds through rice paddies and the rural hamlets of Ban Nam Keo Noi – Akha. Stop at Ban Kum to see how locals make traditional “Lao Lao” wine, the most famous local wine in Muang Sing. Arrive at Luang Namtha around noon. In the afternoon, visit That Poum Puk, Ban Nam Ngan and Luang Kone Temples. Dinner and overnight in Luang Namtha (B.L.D)

 

Day 4 : Luang Namtha – Cycling – Walking

Breakfast. Explore Luang Namtha by bicycle. Visit Ban Pasak and Ban Phoung. Study Black Tai sericulture and learn about the centuries old art of raising and processing silk worms. Explore Black Tai cultural sites. Continue cycling to Ban Nam Thoung, a Tai Lue village known for its cotton weaving, basketry and fish raising. Discover village weavers and tour the village. Picnic lunch. Cycle to Ban Nam Dee, a lanten village to see a waterfall and paper making (cold season only) and to Ban Thong Jai Neua village famous for its silk weaving. Return to the hotel by back-up vehicle. Dinner and overnight (B.L.D)

 

Day 5 : Luang Namtha – Udomxai

Breakfast. Explore the provincial market and local museum. Drive to Udomxai, stopping en route to visit Ban Nam Deng (Lanten) and colourful fruit market. Arrive at Udomxai in the afternoon. Take a short drive towards Muang La to see verdant rice paddies and several Khmu villages. Then, enjoy the sunset and a beautiful view at a hill-topshrine. Dinner and overnight in Udomxai.

 

Day 6 : Udomxai – Luang Prabang

Breakfast. Drive to Luang Prabang. Stop en route for a visit to minority villages. Arrive at Luang Prabang. Lunch. Transfer to the airport for the return flight. (B.L)
